Environment
Flounder are found in both fresh and salt water. Flounder are most commonly found in the western atlantic ocean, european waters, and the northwestern pacific. They stay where the ocean floor is muddy, sandy, has many rock piles, or has coral reefs.
They have even been found at the bottom of the Mariana Trench (Deepest point of the world's oceans) at a depth of 6.831 miles below the oceans surface. Swiss scientist Jaques Piccard was surprised to find a flounder 35,814 feet below the oceans surface that was 30cm long. Flounder will also lurk around in areas where there prey live such as molluscs, crustaceans, and other invertabres. Flounder will typically grow to a length of 5-15 inches, and sometimes grow to lengths of 24 inches.
